Flange coupling processing and inspection and repair
2023-06-26

Introduce:

The flange coupling is a coupling with a very simple structure. It is mainly composed of two halves of the coupling and connecting bolts. The main processing procedures of the flange coupling include boring before the coupling shaft sleeve hole is assembled, Cutting and trimming of keyways, machining of coupling end faces and other surfaces, etc. The bushing hole of the half coupling has two forms: conical hole and cylindrical hole. The conical hole has more advantages in process characteristics than the cylindrical hole. The conical bushing hole is easy to obtain the concentricity between the mating parts, the contact between the coupling and the mating surface of the shaft can achieve a better fit, and the inspection is more convenient, so it is more common to use a conical hole. Coupling half is generally made of forgings, leaving a margin of 2-3mm on each side during rough machining, and the boring process can only be carried out after heat treatment of residual stress. The boring of the coupling is usually carried out on a lathe, because the machining degree of the shaft sleeve of the coupling is very high, so the finishing of the hole is usually done by grinding. Finishing of the outer surface of the coupling takes place in the same setup as the boring. The size of the processed hole and the contact between the hole and the shaft surface need to be inspected. For couplings produced in batches, taper sample columns can generally be used to test the interchangeability of parts. Couplings produced in one piece can be inspected by fitting the coupling on the shaft end. If the fit between the shaft and the hole does not meet the requirements, the hole of the coupling can be scraped.

Machining of flange couplings:

After boring and passing the inspection, the keyway of the coupling can be processed, and the processing is carried out on a slotting machine. A margin of 0.1 mm should be left on both sides of the coupling for post-fitter corrections, and the main machined keyway wall in the middle can be parallel to the center line of the hole. Couplings produced in batches are generally shoveled and inspected with a special sample as the standard, and the couplings produced in a single piece can be trimmed and scraped while assembling to achieve accurate matching dimensions.

Summarize:

The end face processing of the coupling is often carried out on the shaft. This is to make the tenon on the end face of the coupling accurately concentric with the center line of the shaft. In this processing process, special attention should be paid to the end face of the coupling and the rotor. At the same time, attention should be paid to whether the mutual cooperation of the centering tenons meets the requirements. For flanged couplings without centering tenons, the two coupling halves should be fitted together for reaming after drilling.
